Construction & Inspection Information
Permit Center Hours
The Atherton Permit Center is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. consulting on general building issues and permit application will be accepted between these hours. Planning issues can be addresses during these same hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Construction, deliveries, and or servicing of any item on site shall be prohibited as follows:
Before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m. on weekdays
NO work on: Saturdays, Sundays and the 2019 Holidays listed below:
January 1 - New Years Day
January 21 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
February 18 - President's Day
May 27 - Memorial Day
July 4 - Independence Day
September 2 - Labor Day
November 11 - Veterans Day
November 28 - Thanksgiving
December 25 - Christmas
The Town offices will be closed with no inspections on the following days but these are LEGAL work days:
October 14 - Columbus Day
November 29 - Day After Thanksgiving
The Town offices will also be closed the ENTIRE WEEK between Christmas day and New Year's Day.
To schedule an inspection, please call (650) 752-0542. The following information needs to be available during the call:
1. Permit Number(s)
2. Job Site Address
3. Description of Inspection Request
4. Name of person requesting inspection
5. Job site phone number
There must be someone present on the job site during the inspection with the approved job plans and job card.
Lead time - Inspections received before 2pm on the business day before you need inspection will be schedule the following day.
Inspection Hours - Morning inspections take place between 8:00 a.m. and 12 noon. Afternoon begins at approximately 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Confirmation - Call 650-752-0561 to confirm the approximate time of inspection the morning of.
Cancellations - Please cancel inspections no later than 8:00 a.m. on the day of your inspection. Earlier the better.
Final Inspections - Many building permits require a sign off on Landscape Screening, Grading & Drainage, final inspection of Encroachment Permits, and sign off from Menlo Park Fire District and a subcontractor list, before final inspection.
